Program Overview

A comprehensive approach to lasting weight loss

At Michigan Weight Loss Institute, weight loss is not a single prescription. It is a coordinated medical program — physician evaluation, evidence-based medication, nutrition counseling, and ongoing monitoring working together to produce results that last.

Unlike telehealth-only services or commercial diet programs, MWLI provides in-person care with full medical oversight. Every patient is different, and every protocol is built around your labs, history, and goals.

FDA-Approved Medications
GLP-1 agonists (semaglutide, tirzepatide), phentermine, bupropion/naltrexone, and other evidence-based options matched to your medical profile.
Medical Evaluation & Lab Work
Comprehensive metabolic panel, vitals, and body composition assessment. Your protocol is built on data, not guesswork.
Nutrition Counseling
Personalized dietary guidance and meal planning tailored to your metabolism, medication protocol, and lifestyle — not a generic handout.
Ongoing Monitoring & Support
Regular follow-up visits with your physician and PA-C to track progress, manage side effects, and adjust your protocol as your body changes.

Who It’s For

Is MWLI’s program right for you?

The MWLI program is designed for adults who are ready to take a medically structured approach to weight loss — with physician oversight, not on their own.

You may be a strong candidate if: you have a BMI of 27 or higher, you’ve struggled to maintain weight loss through diet and exercise alone, you have conditions worsened by excess weight (Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, or cardiovascular disease), or you’ve plateaued on a previous weight loss medication and need a reassessment.

MWLI also sees patients referred by primary care physicians and specialists who need comprehensive obesity medicine management alongside their existing care.

Common Questions

Medical Weight Loss FAQs

Does insurance cover medical weight loss at MWLI?
Many insurance plans cover consultations, lab work, and follow-up visits with a board-certified physician for weight management. Coverage for specific medications varies by plan. MWLI’s team verifies your benefits at your first visit and helps navigate prior authorization when needed.
How long does the program take?
Most patients see meaningful weight loss within the first 3–6 months. The program duration depends on your goals, starting weight, and treatment approach. Many patients continue with maintenance protocols after reaching their target weight to prevent regain.
What makes MWLI different from other weight loss programs?
MWLI is led by a double board-certified physician with 10,000+ patients treated. Unlike commercial programs or telehealth-only services, MWLI provides full medical evaluation, lab work, in-person monitoring, and individualized medication management — not just a prescription.
Do I need a referral to come to MWLI?
No referral is required to schedule a consultation. MWLI does accept physician referrals and frequently works with primary care providers and specialists to co-manage patients with complex medical histories.
Can I lose weight at MWLI without medication?
Yes. MWLI offers nutrition counseling, dietary support, and behavioral coaching as standalone services or as part of a broader program. Medication is always a medical recommendation, never a requirement.
What happens after I reach my goal weight?
MWLI provides maintenance protocols to help patients sustain results long-term, including ongoing monitoring, adjusted medication doses, nutritional guidance, and body composition tracking.
